Bio:
From the band statement: "Forging Friendships have decided to change their name to FAMINE. A lot has changed over the last 2 years and we feel it's a better representation of where the band is at right now, personally and musically."

Famine is Ian Kelly, Lee Byrne, Stephen Cruise, Robbie Kirwan and Jonathan Boyce. The band formed in Dublin, Ireland at the end of 2006 and in July 2007 under the name of Forging Friendships they released their first 5 track CD, Life at This Speed, on local Dublin label Half Shell Records.

Since then they have recorded and released 2 demos and toured all over Ireland as well as touring the UK 3 times. The band plans to tour further and further from home as soon as they possibly can.

They have had the pleasure of playing shows with bands such as Verse, Everyday Hell, Black Friday 29, To Kill, No Turning Back, Ritual, Union Town, Dungeons, Have Heart, First Death and many more.

The end of 2008 saw the band join the Hurry UP! Records roster and the start of 2009 will see the band record their first full length, "Every Road Leads Back Here", which the band has spent most of the last year writing for.

Famine’s sound comes from a mixture of the member’s individual tastes, which pretty much covers the broad spectrum of modern hardcore. Some members take their inspiration from the more melodic side of the genre, listening to bands like MLIW, Have Heart and Lifelong Tragedy, whereas others are influenced by bands with a harder edge such as Rise and Fall, Reign Supreme and Blacklisted. Further still, elements of the music take influence from bands with a more metal sound such as Bitter End, Deal With It and Cruel Hand. In addition to this, the band takes influence from a range of music outside the hardcore vein, as well as simply from life itself.

Famine is a band that writes their music collectively and because of that their music is the result of five sets of different tastes and influences coming together to create something that incorporates elements of each while trying to avoid scene trends and tired clichés. The music shifts from the fast and intense to the epic and melodic while maintaining a heavy sound. The lyrics are intensely personal and deal with issues of family, love and regret - and the emotion of these themes is mirrored in the band’s music.

For fans of: Have Heart, Verse, Ruiner, Modern Life Is War and Blacklisted.
